Decision of the Frankfurt district court of 4 June 1997 - Truck Racing

The FIA is a world body, to which 113 countries belong. It respects at
all times the law and the courts of individual countries or, in the case
of the EU, groups of countries. Resolutions of its General Assembly
apply world-wide. If, for legal or other reasons, a resolution cannot be
implemented in one or more of the 15 countries of the EU, it
nevertheless remains valid in the other 98 countries of the FIA.

The Frankfurt decision is interim, ie it is provisional. It is subject
to a full and substantive hearing and various appeals. Ultimately, what
is important is the view of the European Commission and the relevant
European court. Whatever the final decision (which the FIA is confident
will be in its favour), it would apply only in European Union countries
and only to truck racing.

The FIA has received clear advice from its lawyers that in order to
comply with the order of the Frankfurt District Court, it should cancel
the FIA European Truck Racing Cup. The individual races remain, of
course, on the International Calendar and there is no reason why they
should not take place as planned. The advice of the FIA's lawyers will
be considered by the World Motor Sport Council at its next meeting on 11
June.

In the meantime, the FIA has written to each of its relevant national
sporting authorities confirming that each organiser of a truck race is
now free to market its television rights as it sees fit. A copy of this
letter has been sent to each such organiser.
